Above is the verse that Leviathan opens with, and none better to describe the film. The film is labeled a documentary, but as I am a fan of doing away with genre associations, I prefer to label it a piece of art. There are films that are made that are meritable purely for entertainment reasons and there are films that are meritable for their expression of some trenchant emotion just as a painting. Leviathan is the latter.
